The Business Beats Cancer Board came together in 2015 to create a business event in Glasgow – the first event in Glasgow to raise funds for Cancer Research UK and the Business Beats Cancer Dinner was born - Cancer Research UK’s vision is to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured and the business community in Glasgow is helping.
With an average of over 80 cases diagnosed each day in Scotland, cancer affects the lives of many people and everyone involved with Business Beats Cancer is likely to have experienced cancer, be it personally or through family, relatives, friends and colleagues.
Cancer Research UK funds almost half of all cancer research here in the UK. Thanks to generous supporters, the charity has helped double cancer survival in the last 40 years. Today, 2 in 4 people survive the disease and the charity’s ambition is to see this figure rise to 3 in 4 within the next 20 years.
Cancer Research UK scientists, including those at the Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute here in Bearsden, Glasgow, are beating cancer every day, because every day they gain new knowledge and this knowledge lasts forever. Each breakthrough takes them a step closer to beating cancer, and every step matters. Last year, Cancer Research UK invested over £24 million in Glasgow on some of the UK’s highest quality scientific and clinical research, supporting the work of outstanding scientists, doctors and nurses in the area, who are working to reduce the devastating impact of this disease, not only locally, but around the world.
Cancer Research UK receives no Government funding for their life-saving research. Every step they take towards beating cancer relies on every pound donated.
Businesses can play a significant role in supporting such a worthy cause and as the Chair of the Business Beats Cancer event, and on behalf of the organising Board, I would like to thank you for your contribution to the success of the Dinner.
We can directly impact on Cancer Research UK’s mission to see 3 in 4 people surviving cancer in by 2034 by helping fund life-saving research and this is what our Dinner is all about: helping researchers at Glasgow’s world-class Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute create more birthdays for more people.
So please support us generously and help more families celebrate birthdays together.
Chair, Business Beats Cancer Board
